OSHO Gibberish Meditation

Osho Gibberish -No-Mind
What is No-Mind Meditation?- The Osho Gibberish (No- Mind) meditation is a method that will help release tensions, anxiety and the energy gathered in the over-thinking mind.

Why do we offer it? It’s a helpful meditation technique that can be used anytime during the day when needed. The Mystic Osho introduced this saying: ‘“I am dealing with the contemporary man who is the most restless being that has ever evolved on the earth. But people do become silent; you just have to allow them to throw out their madness, insanity then they themselves become silent ”

How do we do it?

We start by speaking in Gibberish – nonsense sounds and syllable. We will introduce how to do this.By speaking in Gibberish and not any language you know, it detaches us from thoughts, so we are not caught in them. And it helps release the energy of the thinking process!

“Just say everything that you ever wanted to say and have not been able to say because of civilization, education, culture, and society… And say it in any language you don’t know!…Shouting, laughing, crying, making noises making gestures. As you throw it out you will find yourself becoming light, becoming more alive.” (Osho)

This part of the meditation lasts 30 minutes and it is done out loud. If sound is a problem we can give suggestions how to do this, just as effectively but using as loud whispers as possible. This first part prepares us for the second part.

Sitting in Silence ~ In the second 30 minute part, after participating in the gibberish we sit silently with straight back – on a chair or cushion. The eyes can be half opened with the gaze downward or the eyes closed. We just observe any body sensations, breath, thoughts and emotions that may pass through.

“No-Mind means intelligence. Mind means gibberish, not intelligence, and when I am asking you for gibberish, I am simply asking you to throw out the mind and all its activity so you remain behind – pure, clean, transparent, perceptive,” Osho

This meditation designed by Osho, is to cleanse and de-stress the mind. He has said that “the word “gibberish” comes from a Sufi mystic, Jabbar. Jabbar never spoke any language, he just uttered nonsense. Still he had thousands of disciples because what he was saying was,’ Your mind is nothing but gibberish. Put it aside and you will have a taste of your own being. Use gibberish and go consciously crazy. Go crazy with absolute awareness so that you become the center of the cyclone. Simply allow whatever comes, without bothering whether it is meaningful or reasonable. Just throw out all mind garbage and create the space in which the Buddha appears.”

The second part is silence and witnessing. The cyclone is gone and has taken you also away. The Buddha has taken its place in absolute silence and immobility. You are just witnessing the body, the mind and anything that is happening.

Gibberish when done with absolute intensity, takes us out of our logical mind and into the realms of the mysterious and spiritual. It supports participants to move beyond their usual boundaries of expression and daily structures, to experience a state beyond mind.

People who have participated in the No-Mind meditation around the world report that they have experienced themselves as more open and centered afterwards, and find they can be much more deeply relaxed and silent during meditation.

Gibberish allows us to express emotions and thoughts without the limitations and patterns of words, and to clean the “noise in the head”. Then we can enjoy the quiet space created within us.The word “gibberish” comes from a Sufi mystic, Jabbar. Jabbar never spoke any language, he just uttered nonsense. Still he had thousands of disciples because what he was saying was, “Your mind is nothing but gibberish. Put it aside and you will have a taste of your own being. Use gibberish and go consciously crazy. Go crazy with absolute awareness so that you become the center of the cyclone. Simply allow whatever comes, without bothering whether it is meaningful or reasonable. Just throw out all mind garbage and create the space in which the Buddha appears.

Osho created three revolutionary meditations

No-Mind Meditative Therapy is one of the four therapies that Osho created and scientifically designed for the contemporary man. These methods are a breakthrough to meditation, a speeding up process to connect with our natural state of being. The Osho approach to therapy is used as a tool to help prepare the ground for meditation. Meditative Therapies are processes for freeing old, stuck energies, to renew vitality and to create space for silence. They work energetically, bypassing the conscious, analytical mind. They are therefore clear, pure processes where individuals are connecting directly with their own energy. All of them are basically meditations – even in the active phase, one is in a moment-to-moment encounter with oneself.

Because they form a link between expressive group therapies and individual mediation techniques.
Osho created these three meditative therapies in 1988 not long before his departure from our planet, since then thousands
of seekers has been transformed through their simple but deep effective methods. Many feel they are Osho final gift to us.

              No-Mind Meditation Therapy

So be more and more in the state of no-mind. Just go on removing memories, imagination, to clean and clear the present moment. And as it deepens, you become more and more capable of having no-mind, enlightenment comes of its own accord.”

Gibberish when done with absolute intensity, takes us out of our logical mind and into the realms of the mysterious and spiritual. It supports participants to move beyond their usual boundaries of expression and daily structures, to experience a state beyond mind.
People who have participated in the No-Mind Meditative Therapy around the world report that they have experienced themselves as more open, vulnerable, and centered afterwards, and find they can be much more deeply relaxed and silent during meditation.

The meditation experiment evolved daily, and gradually became a new “meditative therapy” group process called No-Mind. The meditation itself is a week-long program consisting of two hours each day. The first hour is gibberish, where all the rubbish of the mind is thrown out in nonsense language, sounds and movements of the body. The second hour is spent in silence, sitting with eyes closed and witnessing.I am dealing with the contemporary man, who is the most restless being that has ever evolved on the earth. But people do become silent; you just have to allow them to throw out their madness, insanity, then they themselves become silent.”
Osho

No-Mind is one of the Meditative Processes that Osho created shortly before leaving his body. Mystic Rose, Born Again and the No-Mind all fall under this category of powerful energy releasing meditations .
Using the unique and an unusual technique of speaking only Gibberish you can release the stress in your mind and unburden yourself by expressing blocked, repressed energies in a new and original way.

Seven day process, two hours daily. One hour gibberish, one hour silence and witnessing

Osho first introduced the No-Mind meditation as part of his evening discourses on Zen. Later on, it became a group process. Here is an excerpt from the talk where Osho first introduced the meditation:

“The first part is gibberish. The word ‘gibberish’ comes from a Sufi mystic, Jabbar. Jabbar never spoke any language, he just uttered nonsense. Still he had thousands of disciples because what he was saying was, “Your mind is nothing but gibberish. Put it aside and you will have a taste of your own being.”

To use gibberish, don’t say things which are meaningful, don’t use the language that you know. Use Chinese, if you don’t know Chinese. Use Japanese if you don’t know Japanese. Don’t use German if you know German. For the first time have a freedom – the same as all the birds have. Simply allow whatever comes to your mind without bothering about its rationality, reasonability, meaning, significance – just the way the birds are doing. For the first part, leave language and mind aside.

Out of this will arise the second part, a great silence in which you have to close your eyes and freeze your body, all its movements, gather your energy within yourself. Remain here and now.

1 hour sitting in silence

Gibberish is a technique in which we make sounds with no meaning and allow our body to move in any way it wants to.
