Osho Nataraj Meditation
MEDITATIONS FOR MODERN MAN”
Meditations of Contemplation and Understanding
Historically, Sufi s have had a tradition of dancing as a meditation in celebration of life. The following Dancing meditation, created by mystic India Osho, is called Osho Nataraj.
Active Meditations are scientifically designed to help you get out of your mind and into experiencing life itself. Every meditation session and workshop is an opportunity to explore and expand your self-awareness. Anger, sadness, joy, laughter, life energy, love, silence and celebration are all part of the journey. Throw off your tension, open a playful heart and drop into the silent silent witness.
Right Understanding Will Immeasurably Improve Your Life.
Talked about Nataraj meditation. Nataraj meditation is one the different types of meditations discovered by Osho. It is done with the help of special music. This music plays an important part in each and every phase of meditation.
The basic fundamental rule of this meditation is dancing. By dancing, I do not mean any traditional dancing where we basically design moves. People usually control their dance moves to make their dancing appealing to others. I am talking about free dancing which is without any control of moves. Just dancing with the flow of music and enjoying it as much as possible. Feeling of playfulness is an important point to consider in this meditation.

First Phase of Forty Minutes Osho Nataraj Meditation
Close your eyes and dance with the flow of music. You should not try to build dance moves. Just make random moves as nature brings them to you with the music. Just enjoy as much as you can with the feeling of playfulness. You should not take this process as burden. If you are not enjoying dancing then this meditation is not going to help you. You will have to flow like water flows down slope. You will have to flow naturally with the taste of music. Do not stop yourself from making any funny or stupid looking move. Actually, no move is stupid in nature. Music pace will be changing. Thus, adjust yourself accordingly.
Some people may not like dancing but I would say that dancing is a very natural phenomenon, comes from inside and normally everybody should like it. The person who says that I do not like dancing is pretending with himself. Stopping yourself from making random movies might be possible because of cultural and social barriers. You have to free yourself from such things before trying it.
Benefits of Osho Active Meditations
BENEFITS
When you do this dancing meditation, you release a tremendous amount of tension, and creative insights arise. Tension is simply trapped energy. The wild and free movement of the dance is a great way to set this energy free and get it moving. Feeling free in your body allows your mind to expand, your heart to open, and your spirit to soar. Then, when you lie still immediately after dancing, your gross level of activity—the body—is stopped, and the energy you have released travels inward to the subtler layers of your being. This technique allows the dynamism of the dance to move to your roots, to the very core of your being, liberating great feelings of joy and positivity.

Immediate Benefits to a meditator
Inner peace and silence, better attention and concentration, calming influence on everyone around us.
Stress management through raising own our stress resistance and by changing our reactions to things that disturb us.
Freedom from habits and addictions. With time the feeling of bliss from meditations will be enough for meditators to stop looking for other sources like smoking , drinking to get happy. They do drink socially but not to derive solace or ease from drinking or smoking.
Improved health through cleansing of our subtle system. Like our physical body needs good balanced food and adequate exercise for cleansing , our mind needs meditation to cleanse the subtle body which surrounds our physical body. Seers have said that diseases first start in subtle body many weeks before they appear in physical body. So meditation will keep the subtle body energies balanced.
Changed priorities, we start to discover our own inner source of self-motivation, self-respect and enthusiasm for life. The competition for power, position, money has made man more tense than ever before in the history of 3000 years and after meditating for few weeks the shift of priorities becomes evident and makes a person at ease with life.Long-term Benefits of Osho Active Meditations
The body’s nervous system, which is part of an ultra sophisticated control mechanism, is divided into three parts; the Central, Peripheral and Autonomic Nervous Systems. These systems control how we act and perceive our universe through the senses and the autonomic system also governs the automatic running of our bodies by controlling essential non-conscious tasks such as the rate of our heart-beat, our blood flow and our breathing patterns.
One of the beneficial side effects of a active meditation is that our autonomic system automatically reduces any physical over-activity in our body. Since the system is also the part of us which governs the ‘fight or flight’ mechanism within us all (which in the modern world can be damagingly over excited through stress) this can prove to be of major benefit to our health. The by-product of active meditations is deep relaxation which continues not only hours but days after the meditation. It has been suggested that this is accomplished through the improved energy flow which occur at the Limbic area (i.e. the Sahasrara chakra at the top of the head) which is linked to the sympathetic nervous system.
Only through total activity as a by-product a total relaxation can be achieved and active meditations are devices to take us gradually and beautifully to that space of relaxation where time slows down and our everyday mundane things like the morning air, the green of trees and the yellow of sun , all give tremendous joy to us.
Physical benefits of meditation
It is our subtle body (prana ) which co-ordinates all the work done by the organs and the cells in our body. When one of our energy centers (chakra) is blocked, physical dysfunctions appear in the organ it controls. It is then that most illnesses appear. Traditional medicine tries to cure the symptoms and medicines are targeted towards the affected organ. Meditation allows us to attack the cause directly, by re-balancing our subtle energy flow system thus cleaning our centers (chakra). Thus, even so-called incurable illnesses can be cured in a holistic manner by the purifying work of the energy of the Kundalini.
Osho’s meditation works on the subtle body through rebalancing the breathing system and hitting the Hara center for invoking the dormant energy inside us. Meditation directly works on energy by generating the body electricity by vibrations of body and then directs the generated energy all over the body. When you do this dancing meditation, you release a tremendous amount of tension, and creative insights arise. Historically, Sufis have had a tradition of dancing as a meditation in celebration of life. The following Dancing meditation, created by mystic and teacher Osho, is called Osho Nataraj.
Dancing is no longer a doing, but a happening. As you continue to dance, you may start to forget that you are dancing and to feel that you are the dance. Unlike those times when you are still aware of the separation between you and the dance, between you and the music, it becomes a meditation when the divisions dissolve and you are totally involved, totally merged into the dance. You do not need to do anything to force this shift; just allow it to happen.
Disappearing in the dance, then relaxing into silence and stillness, is the way to go inside for this method.
This is a great introduction to tonight’s meditation Osho Nataraj Meditation where we, with eyes closed, will completely let go and get lost in the dance. We will not control our movements, we will be totally in the dance. We then move into a space of stillness and silence.
This meditations is an ideal introduction for the beginner and also allows the more experienced meditator to go deeper. Meditating in a group allows each meditator to have their own experience whilst benefiting from the energy and support of the whole group. Most Meditations are set to beautiful music specifically composed for each meditation.
Each week we explore and experience a different active meditation which is fully explained. Afterwards there will be an opportunity for sharing for those who wish to. Each meditation lasts 1-hour, so allowing for explanation and brief sharing
Forget the dancer, the center of the ego; become the dance. That is the meditation. Dance so deeply that you forget completely that ‘you’ are dancing and begin to feel that you are the dance. The division must disappear; then it becomes a meditation.
If the division is there, then it is an exercise: good, healthy, but it cannot be said to be spiritual. It is just a simple dance. Dance is good in itself – as far as it goes it is good. After it, you will feel fresh, young. But it is not meditation yet. The dancer must go, until only the dance remains…. Don’t stand aside, don’t be an observer. Participate!
And be playful. Remember the word playful always – with me it is very basic.”
“If you really dance, thinking stops. You go on and on, you whirl and whirl, and you become a whirlpool — all boundaries, all divisions are lost. You don’t even know where your body ends and where the existence begins. You melt into existence and the existence melts into you; there is an overlapping of boundaries. And if you are really dancing — not managing it but allowing it to manage you, allowing it to possess you — if you are possessed by dance, thinking stops.”

‘Let the dance flow it its own way; don’t force it. Rather, follow it; allow it to happen. It is not a doing but a happening. Remain in the mood of festivity. You are not doing something very serious; you are just playing, playing with you life energy, playing with your bio energy, allowing it to move in its own way. Just like the wind blows and the river flows – you are flowing and blowing. Feel it. And be playful.’OSHO
