OSHO WHIRLING MEDITATION

                     Whirling meditation 
“Whirling is one of the most ancient techniques, one of the most forceful. It is so deep that even a single experience can make you totally different. Whirl with open eyes, just like small children go on twirling, as if your inner being has become a center and your whole body has become a wheel, moving, a potter’s wheel, moving. You are in the center, but the whole body is moving.” Osho
 
First Stage: 45 minutes
The whirling is done on one spot in an anti-clockwise direction, with the right arm held high, palm upwards, and the left arm low, palm downwards. You whirl just like small children go on twirling. People who feel discomfort from whirling anti-clockwise can change to clockwise, changing the position of the arms as well. Let your body be soft and keep your eyes open but unfocused, so that images become blurred and flowing. Remain silent.
For the first 15 minutes, turn slowly. Then gradually build up speed until the whirling takes over and you become a whirlpool of energy – the periphery a storm of movement, the witness at the center silent and still.
When you are whirling so fast that you cannot remain upright, your body will fall by itself. Don’t make the fall a decision on your part and do not try to arrange the landing in advance; if your body is soft you will land softly and the earth will absorb your energy. Once you have fallen, stay there, this is when the second part of the meditation starts for you.
 
Second Stage: 15 minutes
If you have not fallen down by the time the music stops, allow your body to fall to the ground. Immediately roll onto your stomach so that your navel is in contact with the earth. Feel your body blending into the earth, like a small child blends into the mother’s breasts. If anybody feels strong discomfort lying this way, he should lie on his back.
Keep your eyes closed and remain passive and silent.

 

Whirling meditation is an technique that will liberate you from the mundane world, it is an active form of meditation that centers the mind and body within minutes.

This form of meditation allows you to break free from the chains of the material world and reconnect to our heart center. Your heart center is where divine love, music, faith, and poetry reside. Open communication between the self and the heart center creates unification between the divine influences and self. Whirling can instantly change your outlook on life. While whirling you may experience emotional release such as laughter, tears, joy, peace, and love from the connection you feel with the divine.

Everything around us whirls. As natural as the slow spin of the earth, when we whirl we connect to the energy that makes up all that we are. As you turn you become the center even though your entire body is in motion. Creating a storm of energy with you as the core, silent and still. You don’t leave your body in this meditation to become a witness to what is happening. Instead, you put all that you are into the motion of whirling. You become the whirling.

Whirling creates the natural feeling of being intoxicated allowing your heart center to open. With communication moving freely from your center to the divine and back again you will experience feelings of spiritual ecstasy, connection, and awakening. Your body will decide when the whirling will end. You don’t need to consciously decide to let your body fall. The softness of your body will simply dissolve and you will land softly on the ground.

Your navel represents the connection you once had to your mother inside her womb and that connection is needed once again when you connect with the earth. On your stomach, grow imaginary roots that shift and meld you to the grounding affect of the earth. As the earth absorbs and dissolves the excess energy the whirling created let your arms extend as if you were hugging her. The feeling of being in the loving arms of your mother will surround you.

Osho whirling meditation has many benefits. It enables you to temporarily severe the hold the mundane world has on you. It allows you to build energy that focus in on your heart center and opens communication with the divine. When you’re no longer whirling you make a true connection with the earth as you disperse the energy that built up inside of you back into the soil. The low impact exercise of Whirling will keep you slim and full of energy when done on a regular basis.

“There is a method, a Sufi method know as dervish dancing. Sufis dance. You might have observed small children whirling, dancing round and round and then getting in a whirl… And small children like whirling. Why? — because when they whirl, they get a deep kick, and in that kick they again feel themselves beyond the body. And that’s a beautiful experience — that’s why they like it. Studying this whirling of children, Sufis have developed a method, a meditation method — they turn, whirl. … they will tell you to dance, and go on in a mad whirl, and remain a witness — as if a wheel is moving, and the axis is there and on the axis, the wheel is moving…The axis remains constantly in one position, centered, and the wheel moves on it. Whirl like a wheel, and remember your witness inside as a center. Suddenly you will feel you are the center and the body is just a wheel.” – Osho

Ordinarily you are violent towards others but the mind is very cunning – it can learn non-violence, it can preach non violence, then it becomes violent towards itself. And the violence that you do on your own self is respected by people because they have an idea that to be an ascetic is to be religious. That is sheer nonsense. God is not an ascetic, otherwise there would be no flowers, there would be no green trees, only desserts. God is not an ascetic, otherwise there would be no song in life, no dance in life – only cemeteries and cemeteries. God is not an ascetic: God enjoys life. God is more Epicurean than you can imagine. If you think about God, think in terms of Epicurus. God is a constant search for more and more happiness, joy, ecstasy. Remember that.

Always remember that if you are moving in the right direction, you will go on flowering

Meditation accepts us just as we are-in both our tantrums and our bad habits, in our love and commitments and happiness. It allows us to have a more flexible identity because we learn to accept ourselves and all of our human experience with more tenderness and openness. We learn to accept the present moment with an open heart. Every moment is incredibly unique and fresh, and when we drop into the moment, as meditation allows us to do, we learn how to truly taste this tender and mysterious life that we share together.
